Extended school year proposal costs Maryland county and state

A Frederick County school board report finds extending the school year by 20 days would cost nearly 8 million for the county and 53.3 million for the state in five added days, with total statewide cost 357 million for a 200 day year. Victim Identified in City Shooting Near Hood College

Frederick police identified the man found murdered in an overgrown area near Hood College as 21 year old Galand L. Croker of North Harrietan. He was shot execution style with a head wound and an exit wound behind his left ear. Investigators consider the death likely drug related. The body was sent to Baltimore for an autopsy as witnesses recalled earlier sightings and a similar shooting near Sagner Apartments. An undetermined amount of money was found on the body.

County Chooses Schrodel Site for Next Landfill

Frederick County Commissioners selected the Schrodel farm as the next landfill after reviewing economic data and a consultant study. The closed session last December considered six sites and found only two with suitable soil, Eyler and Schroder properties.
