Thurmont man surrenders in hit and run death
A Thurmont resident surrendered after a fatal hit and run on Saturday night that killed Ernest Hymond Powell, 71, of Thurmont. Valentine released on $1,000 bond pending a hearing for failing to stop and identify himself. Authorities traced a 1941 Chevrolet coupe matching the car’s description with front fender damage, and Valentine said he felt a bump and believed he hit something while driving home from Thurmont.

Two Injured In Crash On Rt. 240 On Monday
Two men were seriously hurt in a head on crash on Route 240 about 2 40 Monday afternoon a quarter mile south of Frederick. Eugene Tavenner 47 and Winters W Wiley 61 were admitted to Frederick Memorial Hospital with knee and chest injuries and possible fractures. Hannum 27 escaped injury. Damage to both cars was estimated at $700 or more. Tavenner was charged with driving on a hill and passing while Hannum faced reckless driving charges.
