Draft Age Lowered as House Committee Approves Measures

The House Military Committee approved a bill lowering the draft age to 18 and 19 with safeguards to avoid inducting unmarried men when single options remain. A new education deferment rule targets students until year end, with July 1943 end for such deferrals. Amendments broaden state wide quotas and limit induction of married men with children. The panel also set constraints on parental consent for under 21 enlistments and barred rejections for non felony offenses.
