Fire alarms reported in the past 24 hours ending 8 p.m. with 1:45 a.m. response near Libertytown and Wondsboro for hot wires. Ambulance calls totaled 28 with 25 emergencies and 3 routines.
A 38 year old Bartonsville Road woman was arrested by Maryland State Police and charged with four drug related counts including possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Police seized two to three grams of cocaine, a weighing scale, a syringe and razor blades, and five grams of a suspicious substance. Nancy Elizabeth Burke Baker, 5640 Bartonsville Road, was jailed at Frederick County Adult Detention Center.

Tonight clears with lows 35 to 40 and light winds for Western Maryland counties. Friday brings sunny pleasant conditions with highs near 7. Maryland mountains see clear nights around 30 and Friday highs 65 to 70 with light winds. Extended forecast calls for fair Saturday and partly cloudy Sunday and Monday with highs upper 60s to low 70s and lows mid 40s to low 50s.
ACLU files a $10 million suit accusing PP Healthcare Inc and government agencies of a severe civil rights violation at St Elizabeths Hospital. Twenty one nurses and aides were subjects of a June 25 strip search conducted in open rooms with co workers and patients able to view, including body cavity probes and hair checks. Several workers say they were forced to undress or face job loss, with doors and windows left open and staff separated by gender. No drugs or contraband were found. Witnesses describe anger and fear as the searches prompted employment threats and heightened monitoring of staff.
District Court in Frederick acquits Chris W Weedon 18 of Ice Street of marijuana possession after the lab drug test results were mailed to him by registered mail and an illegible signature on the delivery receipt led to insufficient proof. Weedon remains jailed on separate drug charges.
Frederick County planners propose merging planning commission and county commissioners rezoning hearings to cut staff time and public effort. The plan would require one public hearing, keep filing in April and October, extend staff analysis to three months, and post site signs on all frontage roads. The proposal, supported by Planning Director James Shaw and planner James Gugel, faces public and legal review with a November 18 planning commission hearing and a December county commission vote.
A broad storm system spreads rain from the Midwest to the Southwest while the East enjoys fair weather.
