Burkittsville moves Halloween events with Blair Witch video release Oct 22 and suggests 5:30 to 7:30 pm trick-or-treating on Oct 29. Ruritan hosts a 7:30 pm party while mayor coordinates extra sheriff patrols as in past years to ensure safe door-to-door festivities.
Walkersville will buy a bridge and abutment from Continental Bridge for nearly 20000 to span Glade Branch and Heritage Farm creeks, linking two parts of the pedestrian path at Heritage Farm Park. The purchase will nearly exhaust Project Open Space funds. The town will seek bids for mowing services in November, as Gateway Mowers is not performing well. Commissioners plan to extend Stauffer Court by purchasing land from Howard if possible.

In other business the council split Royal Oak Drive improvement costs about 4700 dollars each among the county town and developer. The Historic District Commission recommended Friends and Friends for the contract to draft guidelines. Council member Jake Romanell moved to table the issue. The town is in good shape for Y2 but will confirm readiness with the gas company, fax maker, and banks for 2000.
