Public housing crime drives call for tougher police enforcement
Frederick residents and the North End Coalition pressed Mayor Grimes and aldermen for more police in the city’s hot spot housing area after a court ruling halted enforcement of the no trespassing law in public housing. Coalition president Timothy C. Schramm and others warned crime is rising as arrests lag, urging a zero tolerance approach and a task force to identify immediate solutions.

Planning panel stalls AT&T repeater station decision
Frederick County Planning Commission refused to reconsider its approval of an AT&T repeater station near Burkittsville. Attorney Patricia Carter, tied to the Mid Maryland Land Trust, seeks to block the plan via a zoning amendment classifying electric substations as non essential in agricultural districts. If construction starts, ordinance changes would not apply. Also on Wednesday, the commission approved several land-use actions and denied an APFO extension for Preston Subdivision.
