Frederick County seeks 33.7 million for school building projects

Jefferson School expansion plans announced
Jefferson School, a 2 year old residential treatment center for seriously emotionally disturbed children, is set for a 2 million expansion. The project will raise capacity from 24 to 40 day students and 40 to 50 resident students, adding 13 000 square feet to the 60 000 square foot campus.

Giant tortoise shipped south for winter at Catoctin Zoo
At Catoctin Zoo a 600 pound Tank the Giant Tortoise was ferried to Marion Nature Park Florida for the winter. Five staff lured and lifted the reptile onto a trailer with bananas then hay to regulate temperature until spring. The tortoise species can live centuries and many animals stay south for winter.
