Frostburg State student death under investigation

Frostburg State College student Brian Christopher Rogers, 20, of Crofton, was found dead Friday in a strip mine area west of Frostburg. Police and K nine units recovered his body after he had been missing since Wednesday. Autopsy pending after reports of stabbing and beating. campus officials say the death is shocking and senseless.

Maryland lobbyists spend millions as General Assembly ends

Maryland lobbyists spent over 2 million dollars during the General Assembly session with more than 1.6 million reported in Annapolis lobbying and nearly 173 000 used to entertain legislators. Record crops seen not easing rising food prices

Arraignments continue in GSA corruption probe in Baltimore

Six more arraignments are planned next week for defendants named in the GSA corruption probe. Charles Phelps, 39, a former GSA manager, pleaded innocent to conspiring to defraud the federal government. Trial date set for February 20. Raymond Henley, 46, of Landover, Md., pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the government. he managed GSA self service store No. 14 in Washington.

New trial denied in boy's murder case in Baltimore

Baltimore youth Michael Glen Evans, 16, had a new trial denied by Criminal Court Judge Jed Joseph E. H. Kaplan. Evans was convicted Sept 22 of kidnapping and murder in the death of 7-year-old Mario Antonio Howe, who was tied to a pole and pushed into 30 feet of water in an abandoned quarry. He faces a life term plus up to 10 years for extortion.

Goldstein questioned over son’s bid contracts in Maryland

In Annapolis, Comptroller Louis Goldstein faces scrutiny after the Baltimore Evening Sun reports his son Philip won land appraisal contracts while Louis sat on the State Board of Public Works.
