By-Pass May Be Opened Late In Year
Surfacing of the Unionville bypass on Liberty road nears completion and could open to traffic late this year. L R Waesche Co has begun work on U S Route 15 north of Frederick to build a new bridge over Tuscarora creek replacing the decade old temporary span. Construction includes removing topsoil for relocation about 1.1 miles north of Wormans Mill and some stream changes. The single span steel bridge may start with grading well underway, weather permitting. Cement shortages have reached the area as a carload arrives. The Unionville by-pass, under T Edgie Russell Co, covers about 3.788 miles with blacktop surfacing near complete, leaving only a small area for final touchups. The new road diverts traffic around Unionville from 1.35 miles east of Liberty to 1.70 miles east of Unionville, reconnecting with the old road. Official Roads Commission denies plans for large improvements to old Route 40 from Alternate Route 40 near Frederick to Middletown. Bids not yet sought. preliminary work done, but no active roadway ops currently. Tecal Roads crews engaged in routine maintenance including center line painting and soon snow fence erection.

This is the first reduction in roasted coffee prices for major brands since last spring. Ehlers Grade A vacuum packed coffee now is 84 cents a pound at wholesale against 86 cents previously. Albert Ehlers Jr company president said the cut is in line with present lower green coffee prices.
