Memorial scholarship honors George A Nicholson Sr family farm legacy
The Nicholson family moved to a Detour farm in 1952. A 1952 tornado caused major damage but contour strips installed by 1954 reduced erosion. The farm developed with reseeded pastures, ponds updated in 1982, and a 17 acre reforestation project. Nicholson served on the Frederick Soil Conservation District board 1966–1990 and died in 1996. Memorial donations funded a 1999 scholarship for natural resources students.
