Government trims prices on frozen fruits and vegetables
The government moved to raise ceiling prices on frozen fruits and vegetables, allowing increases of about two percent per item. The Office of Price Stabilization said changes apply to the 1951 pack and could take effect by October 25 or earlier if wholesalers adopt the new ceilings. Industry officials expect higher costs mainly for popular frozen vegetables with smaller bumps for kale and other greens, while some items may see no price change. Frozen orange juice, concentrates, and purees fall under the new order, and price adjustments reflect costs in raw materials and other factors. Tidewater coal dealers along the North Arctic Coast may raise their prices about 47 cents per gross ton due to higher transportation costs approved by the Interstate Commerce Commission.
