Record corn harvest to top earlier projections says USDA

The Agriculture Department forecasts this fall harvest will exceed prior estimates, with corn at 8.6 billion bushels, up 2 percent from last month and 12 percent above 7.66 billion last year. Frosts in the western and northern Corn Belt caused minor damage while harvest lags due to cool wet weather. Other crops including soybeans, cotton, and wheat also show strong yields. The report notes farm incomes may fall as surpluses grow and exports slow, with livestock and grain prices cooling. The USDA also projects farm price trends and income ranges for 1985-86, noting record per acre yields for corn and soybeans in many regions. The News, Frederick, Md, Oct 11, 1985.
