Frederick planners affirm 152 million capital program
Frederick County Planning Commission approved a six year capital plan totaling 152 million with unanimous consent. The board of education seeks 52 million for 1987 1988 including a new 590 student elementary school at Butterfly Lane. Highway seeks 43.7 million plus 20 million in general government projects including health and library facilities. Public hearing October 15 with adoption set for May 27 1986.

Army unveils Humvee to replace Jeep at Fort Lewis
The Army introduced the Humvee four wheel drive vehicle at Fort Lewis Washington as the replacement for the Jeep. Maj Ken Bates said Fort Lewis will be the first base to receive the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle officially called Humvee. The army plans 2500 Humvees for the 8th Division while Jeeps remain in inventory but are phased out of active duty. The Humvee costs 19000 to 30000 dollars and comes in cargo troop armament carrier covered carrier and ambulance variants.

Expansion of vo tech to add new programs at center
Paul Stull vo tech principal announced expansion of the Frederick County Vocational Technical Center with a 30 000 square foot addition. New programs include cosmetology restaurant and motel management industrial technology business and office equipment repair communications electronics and body and fender shop. The center aims to place 70 percent of graduates in related jobs and collaborates with Frederick Community College.
