Antibiotics Boost Farm Growth and Profits in Feed
Antibiotics such as aureomycin tetramycin and penicillin are being added to animal feeds to cut piglet mortality and accelerate hog and poultry growth. Trials show Aureomycin increased pig weights and feed efficiency, with chickens and turkeys also gaining more weight. Pfizer and other firms test antibiotics for faster growth, while the discovery arose from by products in aureomycin production.

Chickens Show 20 Percent Weight Gain With Aureomycin Diet
Weight-producing substance residues from antibio tic production appear in feed. Four week old chickens fed aureomycin-based diet weighed about 20 percent more than peers on normal diet with animal protein factor minus aureomycin. The finding suggests growth-promoting effects linked to aureomycin residue in feed.
