Guard Reduction In Cambridge After Racial Tensions

About 300 National Guard troops left Cambridge on Tuesday reducing the force to roughly 100 as a standby reserve of 400 remained on alert. Lt. Gen. Milton A Reckord said calm and orderly conditions justify the pullback amid negotiations on desegregation. The 300 troops were from the 2nd Battalion of the 115th Infantry, leaving behind 100 who will be replaced by another 100 this weekend.
