MontCo delays Dickerson incinerator approval amid safety fears
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M Duncan postponed acceptance of the Dickerson incinerator until independent engineers confirm it meets safety standards. The delay follows a fatal Lancaster Pennsylvania Ogden Martin plant explosion last July and concerns about a 10 inch gas line feeding the Dickerson facility. Jane Hunter of the Sugarloaf Citizens Association supports a hold until Lancaster findings are resolved, warning of potential financial risk to taxpayers if the county accepts now. Duncan written to the Northeast Maryland Waste Disposal Authority insists on thorough engineering verification before any signing off.
