Simmons flags five million in MAIF legal fees
Maryland State Delegate Luiz Simmons charged that the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund has paid more than 5 million dollars in legal fees to politically connected lawyers and state legislators over five years. He cited 479000 dollars paid to legislators and proposed using in house counsel to save about 400000 annually, vowing to push a bill mandating MAIF to rely on its own attorneys unless outside counsel is necessary. He urged the legislature to cut wasteful expenditures amid social service cuts.
