Farmers Supply blaze in Walkersville marked suspicious
A massive multi alarm fire gutted a storage warehouse at Farmers Supply Co in Walkersville on Sunday night. Investigators led by state fire marshal Tim May labeled the blaze suspicious as flames leaped across the three story structure. Fire crews from Frederick Carroll counties and Westminster battled the blaze with water from hydrants and tankers. One firefighter was injured when an elevator collapsed onto power lines as crews protected nearby grain silos and a Purina Chow plant. The fire was controlled within about an hour with onlookers nearby watching the dramatic scene.

Reagan urges Fed to ease if needed to lift economy
The Reagan administration calls for the Federal Reserve to avoid tightening policy further as a recession looms. Treasury and White House officials stress no easy-money policy, but say the Fed should stay within its growth target and ensure enough money to spur recovery. M-1B growth has trailed the 3.5 to 6 percent target, slipping 2.2 percent annually in early year.

PSC orders drop in gas hookup fees in Baltimore
Baltimore Gas and Electric has not decided whether to seek a rehearing of a state public service commission decision to revise new natural gas hookup fees. The PSC says the changes reduce the cost of extending underground mains to neighborhoods, making service more affordable for many homeowners. BG&E opposed the action. The average 1900 extension charge for detached single family homes would drop 45 percent from 1190 to 682 under the new formula, boosting natural gas viability.
