Legacy of laughter and the shift to situation comedy
Red Buttons reflects on a 50 year span of comic sketches and the rise of situation comedy in TV. He cites peers Wille Howard, W C Fields, Bert Lahr, Bobby Clark, Olsen and Johnson, and notes stars like Sid Caesar and Milton Berle moved to stories rather than simple jokes. He laments declining burlesque joy and nostalgic pie in the face gags.
