Draftees Guide on Returning to Civilian Jobs and Duty
Major Thomas M. Nial outlines federal reemployment rights for draftees and service members. He advises notifying employers, documenting intent to return, and applying for old jobs within 90 days of discharge, with details on eligibility, protections, and recourse through state and federal agencies. The piece also notes a West Berlin defection of Horst Becher, a 20-year-old East German police corporal, who fled after a swim across the Havel River.
