Frederick County weighs curbside vs drop-off recycling plan

After a yearlong pilot in Frederick County the choice between curbside pickup and satellite drop-off remains unresolved. In 1991 1992 the two systems collected 2147 tons with curbside at 581 tons and drop-offs at 1366 tons. The county paid 171000 to Browning Ferris Industries while earning 48000 from recyclables. Costs per ton favored drop-offs at 31 versus curbside 144, and a 20 percent state mandate may drive a curbside option. The county may propose all curbside air drop-off or a mix to commissioners.
