Jet's fuselage swept away by Pacific currents
In Callao Peru fierce winds and currents swept away the fuselage of Aeroperu Flight 603, disrupting salvage efforts after the Boeing 757 plunged into icy waters. Authorities had located most of the wreckage under 600 feet but said it was gone by Thursday. Coast Guard Capt. Augusto Zegarra said the debris moved with the current and may be elsewhere. Trans portation Minister Elsa Carrera quoted the pilot saying the instruments failed and he had lost bearings, reporting no basic instruments and accelerating despite throttling back.
