County Recycling Program Grows While Scavenging Nets Fines

Recycling began in April 1990 and now accounts for 30 percent or more of county trash. Residents bring recyclables to sites or use curbside blue bins. Frederick fair closes after four day and night shows

Fifty years ago on October 2 1945 Frederick marked the 83rd annual fair wrap with a largely rain soaked final after dark show. G Ernest Lipps was named assistant services officer for Maryland Veterans Office and head of a Winchester Hall branch. Irene C Kenna became secretary. Patrolman Skinner Bell rushed to a Magnolia Avenue fire in trousers missing then fetched them. AWVS Frederick unit published a farewell as its members thanked the public. Gas workers upgraded lines in East Frederick. Humane Society urged plan for a new shelter on Montevue Lane behind the county pool. NAACP head urged HRC to back statewide rent controls for tenants facing eviction. Mayor Ronald N Young supported a group home in Frederick.
