Who talks to Jerry Brown about his canoe theory
Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. networks widely for advice including Tom Hayden and Jane Fonda, astronaut Rusty Schweickart, Stewart Brand, Jesse Jackson, Bank of America’s A W Clausen, Southern Pacific’s Ben Biaggini, anthropologist Gregory Bateson, and Zen abbot Baker-Roshi. The mix shapes Brown’s blended approach to politics, balancing fiscal restraint with left and right ideas, though critics see it as catering to diverse interests. Hayden says Brown is receptive and the relationship is issue driven rather than social.
