Dulles Defends Peace Treaty Risk at Governors Meet
Ambassador John Fester Dulles told Governors the Truman administration weighed the risk of war with Russia and Red China when pressing for the Japanese peace treaty signed in San Francisco last month. He warned the Soviet and Communist China might use the treaty as a pretext for renewed war, a decision he called courageous. The Governors conference also heard on defense controls, energy shortages, and manpower limits, with later talks planned on social security and welfare. Ed Fullerton of Maryland was named Athlete of the Week after a 54 14 win over Washington and Lee.
