Pigs Spilled In Wreck On Route 40
A tractor trailer overturned on Route 40 east of Ridgeville knocking out the Frederick Baltimore telephone line. The truck carried three spools of electrical cable, causing about 2500 dollars in damage. Driver George Wolfe, 48, of Baltimore, and Fleet Transfer Co. owned the rig. A separate pig truck overturned nearby, later righted and continued.

No Billboards Along Rt. 400 Sideling Hill
Baltimore October 2 The State Roads Commission announced that principal outdoor advertising companies will not erect large billboards on five miles of the new U S 40 Sideling Hill section in Western Maryland as part of a voluntary agreement. The move covers most of the seven mile project with minor areas left out. The commission notes permits are needed within 500 feet of highways but cannot ban signs outside highway rights of way. The new $2 443 million Sideling Hill relocation, western Washington County, replaces a winding route with straighter grades and curves, adding a third lane for slow traffic and opening much of the route to use.

Bus Driver and Seven Passengers Injured in Head-On Crash
A Greyhound bus en route from Charleston to Portsmouth collided head-on with a heavy truck on Route 52 near South Point, injuring the bus driver C. M.
