It includes a testimonial from Mrs Speer Rhe twin of Albert Ontario detailing relief after four bottles plus other products.
An old and young crowd despondent from April to September bluntly shows fatigue and overwork. A torpid liver causes sluggishness, reduced effort, and sleepiness, and the ad claims Victor Liver Syrup as a hundred year remedy for liver and blood diseases and a range of ailments from dyspepsia to malaria and female troubles.
In Montpelier on October 2 the Vermont legislature elected General John G McCullough Republican of Bennington as governor after a day of excitement though he had not secured a majority of popular votes earlier. Percival Clement received 59 votes and Felix McGettrick 45. Stanton was chosen lieutenant governor with 181 votes to Agan 35 and May 37.
In Mindanao, Maciu Moros offered brief resistance to Captain Pershing's Fifteenth Cavalry column. After skirmishes on Monday and Tuesday, Moros retreated into six coastal forts. Pershing's men shelled the forts, captured forts, and compelled Moros to flee with twenty killed and many wounded. no American casualties reported. The force has orders to destroy the forts if peace does not come.
Lieutenant General Nelson A Miles departed San Francisco aboard the transport Thomas for the Philippines with a large party including Lt Col Maus and wife A.S. Fltr and other officers. The voyage will stop at Honolulu and Guam and among passengers are Frank W Wiborg Henry C Rouse and Missouri Kansas Texas Railway president Rouse.
President Roosevelt will seek a meeting between anthracite coal mine owners and striking workers to avert a national coal shortage. The move follows cabinet discussions that found no constitutional path to federal intervention, with Roosevelt urging both sides to act humanely and end the strike.
Whesbarra Pa October 2 President Roosevelt invited Mitchell to a White House conference in Washington. Mitchell, wearing the broad tiifle, said he would accept and would arrive in Washington early tomorrow morning. He declined to discuss possible conference topics or a strike settlement, calling the receipt of the message a great relief.
At President Mitchell's headquarters a high level message failed to arrive on time causing disappointment and threats of collapse. The prevailing view is that a conference will agree on a plan to settle the strike in a manner satisfactory to both sides.
In New York President Truesdale of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western says he will attend a Washington coal conference after receiving President Roosevelt's telegram. J P Morgan backs the invitation as admirable, while John Markle plans to join. Philadelphia’s George F Baer of Reading Company agrees the president’s request is a command for the attendees.
The New York coal crisis worsens as dealers charge about one cent per pound for anthracite in tenement districts. Flat and office owners panic as supply dwindles to a ton at a time, with one case showing a $25 demand. Gas companies curb contracts amid high gas demand and oil stove supplies lag behind orders.
Boston October conference led by Mayor Collins discussed coal scarcity and aid to the poor. General William A. Bancroft offered 50 thousand tons to the city. Major H J Higgenson signed a subscription for 15009.
Rear Admiral James E Jowett U S N retired died yesterday at Sandy Spring Maryland Ex Chief of Police F W Ames of Minneapolis Minnesota was convicted yesterday of receiving a bribe and resignation of the officer involved is expected.
The War Department style exercise yesterday served as an object lesson for National Guard officers. Blues under Colonel James M Cannon defended a wagon train against Captain T R Rivers Fourth Cavalry. Rivers reportedly crippled 36 to 40 percent of wagons but suffered heavy casualties. Rivers commanded eight cavalry companies. three were wiped out after a failed charge against infantry.
In Harlem a 20 year old woman Jen nie Larsen was found dead in Louis Appleord’s third floor tenement. Medical exam says death five or six days prior with abdominal wounds attributed to possible criminal operation. Appleord arrested. coroner suspects murder but police say he withholds truth.
In Saratoga NY on Oct 2 the Democratic state convention nominated Bid S. Coler of Brooklyn for governor with Charles N. Bulger, Crank Moot, Charles M Preston, John Cunden, and George R. Finch as top state officials. The platform calls for national ownership of anthracite coal mines. Devery protested seating, stormed out, threatening trouble for the ticket while denouncing leaders as scoundrels.
Joseph Hughes of New York sues Felix Warburg in U S court for 50000 damages claiming his horse was killed and he was injured when the horse bolted at Seabright after being frightened by Warburg s automobile. Hughes says he organized the Continental Tobacco Company and earned 200000 yearly for five years.
