Fast start at festival wheelchair race on Market Street

Eleven handicap racers thundered from the YMCA to Market and Church streets in Maryland Resident Road Racing Series events. Ken Archer, 45, Bowie, won the Men's Open in 3.30, earning a $500 savings bond. Susan Katz, Gaithersburg, claimed the Women's Open, and Eddie Belton, Largo, took the Men's Masters with Belton earning a $100 bond.

Frederick City Bond Rating Upgraded By Moody’s And S&P

Frederick increases bond ratings from A to A1 by Moody’s and A to A by Standard & Poor’s. The upgrade cites improved debt structure and levels, a growing economy, sound finances, and strong management. Proceeds from a $15 million bond sale will finance property purchases, golf course refinancing, and the Gov. William Donald Schaefer office building project.

County GOP sues Curran over campaign finance ruling

The Frederick County GOP joined Maryland's state party in a Frederick County Circuit Court suit against Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr. and the state election board. They challenge Curran's advisory opinion that state and local Republican committees may not spend money to aid their gubernatorial nominee Ellen Sauerbrey, who is slated to receive about $1 million in public funds. Curran defends the opinion, while party officials call for court clarification.

MVA to install ticket system at Frederick office

The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration plans a $219,000 project to install customer traffic management systems at the Frederick office and five other sites. The system uses ticket dispensers and electronic boards to let 150,000 annual visitors sit while waiting, tracking flow for management.

Road crew paints line over dead groundhog on road

A county crew painted road markings after a dead groundhog lay on the roadway. An observer said they found the animal and that county workers planned to touch up the line where the animal rested, noting the cleaning precedes line painting.
