Frederick County analyzes its workforce under an affirmative action policy drafted in 1979 by Huse and updated over time. The county uses Maryland Department of Labor statistics, noting 51.7 percent female workers, 98 percent minorities, and 82 percent African Americans in the overall workforce.
Frederick County Public Schools superintendent Dr Jack Dale and Longanore High senior Jason Copley lead the Snowflake Campaign annual Community Living appeal. The effort aims to raise 2500 to fund holiday gifts and special needs items for residents with developmental disabilities, including a vibrating watch and bedroom set, plus daily costs not covered by government funding. Copley, the first youth co chair, volunteers since sophomore year, cites Special Olympics days and plans to study special education.
