Lawmakers wary of dairy price support proposals
Maryland lawmakers cautious on a task force package to back dairy prices and extend sell by dates. The plan would let the agriculture secretary set minimum prices with advisory input, a move praised by farmers but opposed by some processors including Giant Food. Critics warn price supports could raise milk costs and drain dairy farms. A 60 day shelf life possibility prompts taste tests and debate.
