Frederick County Schools Win State MSPAP Awards

Four Frederick County schools each receive over one hundred thousand dollars for two years of improvement under Maryland MSPAP rewards. Urbana Elementary nets twenty four thousand two hundred eighty one, Yellow Springs Elementary twenty eight thousand five hundred eighty four, South Frederick Elementary thirty one thousand one hundred eighteen, and Middletown Middle thirty two thousand eight hundred twenty eight. The awards total two point seven five million to one hundred two schools statewide, with results based on growth from year to year. Gov. Parris Glendening lauds the program as a push to boost instruction while high schools await MSPAP development.

Expansion of airport hindered by use of school

The Frederick Airport Commission on Tuesday backed a plan to locate a new school at the former East Frederick Elementary site, warning it could jeopardize federal funds for airport expansion. Commissioner Richard Bernstein won 3-2 votes to add a concern that the East Patrick Street site risks air traffic. A $1 million sale contract was signed between Frederick County commissioners and Friends of Catholic Education Inc. to sell the school, with Dave Grove noting awareness of the pros and cons.

County implements first career paramedics in Frederick County
