Egg boycott urged by New York mayors across state
Steps toward a statewide egg boycott with official sanction were announced by Joseph Hartigan and Mayor Burns. Mayors would urge citizens to avoid eggs for two weeks except for the aged, infirm, and children, aiming to curb perceived egg market speculation. The campaign includes film slides in theatres and plans to bring in more storage eggs at 35 cents a dozen from country districts. Harrison Walton, 74, Philadelphia, marks 60 years as a public school teacher.
