Submarine sinks American ship Chemung off Spanish coast
Secretary of State Lansing announced official confirmation that the American steamship Chemung was sunk by gunfire and torpedo from an Austrian submarine fourteen miles east of Cabo De Gata. The crew landed at Valencia. later reports say they were towed by the submarine and were rescued, with the captain refusing to strike colors. The ship sailed New York to Genoa and Naples, owned by Harley Steamship Co, Buffalo built 1888, 427 feet long.

British Destroy 2 Big Zeppelins Over England
London reports say two Zeppelins raided the northeast coast and north midland counties and were destroyed by British airmen. Crews are believed to have perished. One woman died of shock and sixteen others were wounded as debris and broken windows marked the damage.
