Two Killed In Traffic Accidents
A 58 year old Fair Chance woman died on her honeymoon night when the car she rode in ran off the road hit a guard rail rolled over and burst into flames east of State Route 66 at South Mountain. Her husband Earl A Doyle was admitted in poor condition. In a second holiday fatality a 30 year old Union Bridge man Wayne L Haifley died at Carroll County General Hospital after a truck car collision on U S 140 in Westminster. Clarence B Rhinecker 25 of Westminster was driving the truck and faced drunken and reckless driving charges. Three people were injured at U S 15 and State Route 76 Motter Station Road.

A People's Dog at the Souther Kennel in Maryland

Airplane Crash Kills 48 in Alaska
An Anchorage DC8 jetliner carrying Army personnel and dependents crashed on takeoff after refueling, exploding in flames. 48 passengers and crew were killed with 168 injured and 3 missing. The flight originated at McChord AFB en route to South Vietnam via Yakota and Anchorage. Survivors described a sudden loss of lift and a fireball as the plane slid off the runway. Capitol International Airways owned the aircraft. most passengers were military personnel.
