Top quality trees should run 2.50 to 3.50 per foot, with more trees available at higher price points. Unlike last year’s shortages, the 1979 supply is expected adequate to meet demand, with about 30 million live trees predicted to be sold.

Controversy Over RICA II Facility in Gaithersburg

Frederick Montgomery county officials and the Juvenile Court Committee voice grave concern that the Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents RICA II may shift from its original aim of treating deeply troubled youths to housing mildly troubled children. They warn funding and staffing may be inadequate if the state runs the 7 million dollar 80 bed facility delaying opening beyond 1980 and threatening local programs. The group urges close monitoring and council supervision while state planners seek a dual Montgomery Frederick advisory panel to address fears of competition with existing programs and loss of group homes.
