Christmas Braces for Holiday Mail Surge in Florida
In Christmas Florida locals brace for the holiday rush as the post office expects about 100000 pieces of mail for Santa and the Christmas postmark. Postmaster Joy Chittum notes letters arrive from around the world and even small packages are sent to be mailed out with the seasonal stamp. A local family, Santa’s helpers for years, replies to children’s letters addressed to Santa. Christmas is an unincorporated community on U S 50 about 23 miles east of Orlando with 3500 residents over a 100 square mile area and no defined boundaries. A single general store and the post office anchor the town, where a permanent yuletide display sits near the post office, including a Christmas tree and art club plywood panels.
