State Farm opens new Frederick regional HQ
Thousands celebrated the $32 million three story, 406000 square foot State Farm Regional office off Trading Lane. The 700 employee capacity building, opened with speeches by Rep Roscoe Bartlett and local officials, replaces the 1965 Oak Street site and anchors Maryland employment and community service activity.

Willard Hawkins educator and former mayor dies at 91
Willard Lee Hawkins 91 of Bowersox Road near New Windsor died Saturday at Carroll County General Hospital. He was husband of Anne Baroniak Hawkins for 47 years and father of Dr. Willard L. Hawkins. A Western Maryland College graduate, he earned a master's from the University of Virginia and studied law before pursuing a long career in public education. He served as high school principal in multiple towns and 14 years as Garrett County schools superintendent before retiring to a Carroll County farm in 1968.
