Frederick County High Schools End Fall Athletics Season
The fall athletic season ends in Frederick County with eight high schools represented in boys soccer and girls volleyball. Thurmont high school reports a successful fall across volleyball and soccer. Boys soccer, coached by Ralph Burdette, won the western division pennant with six straight wins, but lost the county final to Brunswick. Girls volleyball, coached by Miss Margaret Shipley, completed a perfect season and won the eastern division pennant, defeating Middletown 15 to 11 in the title match.

Maryland seeks exemption to Fordney tariff on quail imports
State Game Warden E Ive LeCompte urges Maryland’s congressional delegation to press Congress for relief from new tariffs on quail imports from Mexico. The department buys about 10 400 quail annually, costing around 15 000, with season only 43 days long. The tariff dispute aims to keep the game supply and aid farmers, despite higher costs. In Ontario a muskrat caused a three day blackout after chewing a cable to get beeswax, being electrocuted in the process.
