County Roads Program For Year Ended 1951
County Engineer Roger H. Willard reported at a county roads board meeting that about 19.5 miles of new paved highway were completed this year with several projects carried over to 1952. A wearing surface was placed on 14 more miles of existing macadam roads using a traveling plant mix, widening and improving ride quality. Improvements include Rocky Springs pike, Annandale road, Wolfsville to Smithsburg mountain, Pleasant View road, Ballenger Creek pike to Doubs, Mountaindale to Route 15, and Dublin road. Several sections and culverts will be finished next year, with paving on the Gene Hemp road near Jefferson and the Cap Stine road project carried over to 1952. A joint Frederick and Carroll county project will replace the Pole bridge over Linganore creek. About 4.6 miles of the 19.5 miles were Federal aid. the rest by county forces. Maintenance and snow fence work also continued.
