Alban calls to remove courthouse posts from party politics
Montgomery County Republican candidate Miles F. Alban Jr. urged ending partisan control of the state's attorney and sheriff roles, arguing these offices should be independent of party politics and elections run like school boards. He attacked incumbent Sonner and cited liquor investigations as proof of political influence, while contending Albans would empower informed voters and curb factional loyalty. Cassidy countered that Alban remains a partisan candidate and emphasized addressing crime issues and evaluating incumbents’ records.

County Law Prevails Over City Rules In Forest Heights Ruling
Maryland Municipal League members including Frederick Mayor Ronald N. Young warned of municipal dissolutions after a Forest Heights fortune telling ban was struck down by the county’s higher law. Young urged annexation agreements tied to fringe-area development and proposed limiting county land annexations without county consent. The group also tackles double taxation and revenue sources via a task force as city county relations strain.

Frederick County considers vehicle tag renewal by treasurer
Frederick County treasurer Martha Ann Brittain will seek county commission approval to issue routine motor vehicle registration renewals. The plan would let residents renew all at once at a minor 25 cent per tag fee plus the state renewal. Current options include MVA offices private title firms or mail. The move aims to save drivers time and reduce staffing needs while spring remains a slower period for the treasury.
