Firefighters from New Market Libertytown and Mt. Airy battled an early morning blaze on Route 75 east of Frederick that destroyed a bank barn owned by Gilmore Flautt II. Damage estimated at 25 000 to 30 000 dollars, no animals inside, investigation by U S Fire Marshal Office underway.

Rezoning cases set Monday in county plan hearing
Two cases postponed to Monday involve 193.58 acres near Jefferson for planned industrial use and 126.6 acres on U.S. 15 south of Frederick for mobile home development. A third request for 801.6 acres in the Lake Singapore area will be heard as well. The Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended approval for all three when heard in October. The Buckeystown site near new U.S. 15 and Hawker Road was filed by Winchester Properties Inc. and James W. Schoonover, with A-1 to M-0 rezoning recommended due to neighborhood changes from U.S. 15 relocation. A 9.46-acre high density residential portion was withdrawn after denial. Boise Cascade Co. and Gerald A. Cousino seek 126.6 acres from A-1 to RMHD for a mobile home development approved by planners. The Singapore Corp proposal would rezone over 800 acres from C-1 to A-1 for low density residential use, bounded by Bogers Mill Road, Linganore Road, Gas House Pike, and Quinn and Hail Roads. Civil suit seeks 200000 in car horse collision case
Brenda Lee Stowers and Charles W. Stowers Jr. sue George A. Chadwick Jr. and Francis E. Schuster for 200000 damages from a March 8 crash on Md 28 near Dickerson involving a horse that wandered from Rock Hill Farm. Plaintiffs claim negligence for fences and maintenance.

Fatal Wreck Causes Power Blackout
One man was killed and another injured when their car struck a utility pole on U.S. 15 half a mile south of Buckeystown. Ronald Lee Delph 24 of Dickerson died. Charles H. Pearson Jr. 26 of Dickerson was treated for a forehead laceration and released. The crash caused a five hour regional blackout and traffic detours via Manor Woods New Design and Adamstown Roads. The accident occurred around 7 p.m. and blocked both lanes after the vehicle continued about 140 feet post impact.

Hanoi Booby Trap Kills Five American Soldiers
AP report from Saigon says five American soldiers were killed by a booby trap in Cambodia, part of a two day operation that also saw heavy losses among 6,000 South Vietnamese troops. The blast hit a unit of the 196th Brigade southeast of Da Nang as it moved after breakfast.
