Mount Airy man found not guilty on technicality
A 34 year old Mount Airy man, Walter Eugene Harmon, was found not guilty of disorderly conduct and assault and battery on a technicality after officers said they did not actually witness misbehavior. The case followed a November 10 warrant brought by Harmon's wife, Janet, and defense counsel said acquittal was warranted due to lack of direct observation by a corporal. A separate case involved 9 year old Richard E. Harne, resulting in a guilty verdict and fines for DUI, reckless driving, and minor in possession. A Dec. 9 trial date was set for Raymond V. Forman on a prowling arrest.

Annapolis reports County Executive Joseph W. Alton Jr urged lawmakers to pass emergency legislation authorizing a parallel Chesapeake Bay Bridge. He noted costs of 165 million for a northern crossing and 73 million to dualize the existing span, calling Rep Clarence D. Long’s anti parallel span campaign a major blunder. A regulatory session pressure to pass bridge legislation is anticipated despite the prior referendum defeat.
