Gaithersburg paper bought by Gazette in merger plan
The weekly Courier serving northern Montgomery and southern Frederick counties is sold to The Gaithersburg Gazette. About 40,000 homes read the Courier weekly. 31 staffers including six reporters and two full time photographers face a gradual staffing merge. Courier editors expect combined editions and expanded coverage with less profit pressure. The Gazette, circulation over 50,000, aims to deliver stronger ads and a redesigned product.
