Frederick County Population Set at 83 803 in Preliminary Census

Preliminary Frederick County population listed at 83 803 by the Planning and Zoning Commission, six percent below staff projections. Including military personnel and residents of institutions would raise total to about 88 133, narrowing the gap to three percent. Dialogue Group Studies Future at Frederick Meeting

A panel formed to map a January general meeting on the future of Frederick’s Interracial Dialogue Group. The group, formed after 1968, has served as a forum for black white issues and as a parent body for task forces on housing finances and education. Conflicts over leadership and whether to continue as a parent body or reform were raised by Rev Zerkel and Acting Chair Dredden while about 20 attendees discussed possible paths and notifying members.

The 120 acre James Schaefer farm along U.S. 40 west of Frederick sold to Glen J. Koe penick of Rockville for 822820. Power lines trap 11 motorists on Ballenger Creek Road

A live power line pole restraint failed in rain on Ballenger Creek Road trapping a state police cruiser and ten other vehicles at 7:04 p.m. The cruiser radio antenna picked up 12,000 volts, burning out the radio and hindering startup. Potomac Edison said the pole was recently planted and lines pulled free due to wet ground. In a separate crash at 7:44 p.m. an 11 month old was thrown from a car on Woodville Road near Unionville after lighting dimmed and the vehicle left the road hitting a bank.

UGF Federal Drive Tops Goal At Detrick

The 1971 Combined Federal Campaign at Fort Detrick exceeded its goal for the third year, with a final total of 17 501 45 collected, 3 501 45 over the 14 000 goal. The Frederick area campaign also surpassed its goal by 8 750 65, reaching 26 750 65. Fort Detrick contributed 17 501 45 to the total, and leaders praised the campaign participants.
