Indignation Over Removal of 50-Year-Old Linden Trees
Miss Elia Shriver's front yard on South Market Street lost three fine linden trees after city workers cut them down early Wednesday. Forester Klein and city engineer Crum cited consent from Shriver, though she said she learned of the action only when workers arrived. The trees, planted over fifty years ago, were landmarks and their removal sparked protests and calls for legal action.
