PORKERS PREPARED FOR THANKSGIVING BUTCHERINGS IN FREDERICK COUNTY
In Frederick County the annual hog slaughtering season nears as cold weather settles in. Hundreds of hogs will be butchered in farms and city yards over the next six weeks, with preparations like kettles, lard cans, and sausage gear ready. Thanksgiving Day becomes a peak for laboring men to convert hogs into pudding and sausage, while cured hams and shoulders promise strong demand. Hog cholera's decline boosts livestock numbers, and county-wide butcherings extend daily beyond Thanksgiving with old time country dinners and neighborly help enhancing the scene.
