In Philadelphia, November 17, A. D. Sexton, comptroller of the Susquehanna Coal Company, testified before a state inquiry that the firm sells anthracite at about five cents below production cost. He said labor costs rose sharply from 1913 to 1916, wages and supplies driving losses while dividends halt. The company owns $9.3 million in debt, with output shipped mainly via the Pennsylvania railroad and no major jobber sales.
