Frederick High School senior Sheila Leatherman earned a spot in the National FFA Band at the 59th annual convention in Kansas City, performing before about 22,000 attendees. From six years of flute, she and 99 others were chosen by mailed audio tapes and rehearsed intensely before debuting at the Agricultural Career Show.

Two Convicted in Frederick County Theft Cases
Frederick man William Brett Abshire 26 and Thurmont woman Donna Lee Henry 22 were convicted in Frederick County Circuit Court of theft related crimes. Abshire admitted stealing a .25 caliber handgun, a watch, cash and a knife from Hoffmans Barber Shop at 100 S Jefferson St the handgun recovered by police. Henry admitted passing a stolen 400 check at First National Bank of Maryland as part of four blank checks stolen in May from Audrey Marick of Mount Airy. Sentencing was deferred to Jan 6 after background investigations.
