Baltimore Council Votes for New Cigarette Tax Increase
Baltimore City Council approved an extra penny per pack cigarette tax by an 18 to 2 vote, raising the city levy to two cents and boosting city revenues by about 1.4 million dollars. The federal tax also rose a penny, effective November 1. Cigars chewing tobacco and roll your own products unchanged. Cigarettes cost about 19 cents now and about 20 cents after January 1, 1952. Machine cigarettes rise to 22 cents after the federal increase.

From Here Die In Crash Near Delsea Drive Hardine Highway
Thomas P. Culler of this city and David E. Derr of Route 4 were killed in an auto-truck collision at Harding Highway and Delsea Drive New Jersey. The other wife was in a dying condition at Vineland New Jersey hospital. The Packard sedan occupied by the county men and a truck loaded with exits crashed about 12:30 this afternoon. The car was demolished and the truck overturned. The driver of the truck was Gilbert Mazzoni 18 of Landisville New Jersey. It took an hour to extricate the bodies. The two Frederick couples were en route to the national grange convention in Atlantic City. Both men were well known in Frederick County farm circles and past masters of Ballenger Grange. Culler was a former farmer and employed at Arcticaire Inc in this city. Derr farmed near Feaga ville along Route 240.
