Winsiseton Delaware November 13 Sergeant Hugh McConnell of the city police was pursuing a gang of suspected thieves when one man knocked him senseless. He crawled home and now lies in critical condition with a badly cut face. No arrests have been made.

John Fleming of the Fleming and Merriais firm, Chicago, was arrested here by a post office inspector on an indictment in U S court for using the mails for fraudulent purposes. He has lived here under the alias Col J F Wood and engaged in real estate dealings now attached by attorneys for the firm’s victims.

A Republican who met President Arthur recently told Star reporters that the president linked the Democratic victory to the Danville affair. The informant said Arthur would likely sustain Mahone, though he sees no hope for Republican success in the South next year.
